Strawberry Milkshake
Is there anything better than a strawberry milkshake? Cold, creamy, so thick that your straw stands straight up, and filled with juicy berries. Nothing quite hits the spot like an old-fashioned strawberry shake.
The strawberry fundraiser was always one of the best signs of summer. We’d come home and gorge ourselves on bright red, juicy berries. And it also meant that there was a supply of frozen strawberries for milkshakes for weeks.
Because when it comes to summer, a strawberry milkshake or two is definitely in order.

How to Make the Best Strawberry Milkshake
- 1/2 pound strawberries -> bright red strawberries that are red or pink in the middle (instead of white) will give you the best flavor.
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 pint high quality vanilla ice cream. Go for ice cream made with real cream, none of that frozen dessert stuff.
- 1 tsp vanilla extract.
- And 1/2 cup milk. I like to use 2% or whole milk for the creamiest, most delicious flavor. We’re not trying to save calories here.
Now for my milkshake making tips.
- Slice your strawberries, toss them in sugar, then place them in the fridge to macerate. This steps really brings out the juices of the berries, therefore adding so much real strawberry flavor. I like to place them in the fridge to macerate for an hour, but even 10 minutes can work wonders.
- If you don’t have fresh berries, you can definitely use frozen berries too.
- Pop your glasses in the freezer to chill. When your glasses or cold, it helps prevent melting and therefore your milkshakes stay thick longer.
- I use vanilla ice cream because that’s usually what I have on hand. But you can also use strawberry ice cream.
- Feel free to play around with the amount of milk depending on how thick you like your milkshake.
